2009 - 2010 WEEKEND CLASSES
October 2, 2009 (4 hours)
Eight Silk Brocades presented by Jeffrey Yuen
The Eight Silk Brocades is an excellent set of general exercises for health and fitness. Made up of a series of stretching routines with accompanied breathing, the Eight Brocades is one of the oldest and most widely practiced exercises in the world. It is used for promoting physical well-being, preserving vital stamina and keeping the heart peaceful and open. Each movement is related to both an internal organ and a meridian, so when practicing the full set, optimum benefit is achieved when they are practiced in the correct order.
October 3 & 4, 2009 (15 hours)
The Ling Shu presented by Jeffrey Yuen
This course introduces the Ling Shu, which is a foundational text of acupuncture. Modern interpretation of this classic text helps deepen students’ understanding of the roots of Chinese Medicine. In addition to learning pathogenesis and treatment strategies for the diseases mentioned in this text, students are introduced to the spiritual aspect interpreted from the Daoist tradition as it relates to the “Spiritual Axis”. The text is not about treating the disease, but rather the soul, as the spirit is the root of all disease. Students realize that acupuncture is intended to return a client back to their spirituality and each needle is a directional compass/axis toward self-actualization.
March 12, 2010 (4 hours)
Eight Immortals Qi Gong presented by Jeffrey Yuen
The Eight Immortals are a group of Daoist deities each of whom has a qi gong practice named after him/her. This group of Qi Gong exercises can be easily practiced and mastered by those who may have limited abilities due to health issues. These exercises are used to boost the immune system, re-energize and re-attune the body.
March 13 & 14, 2010 (15 hours)
Luo Vessels presented by Jeffrey Yuen
The Luo Vessels are discussed in the Ling Shu and are integral to understanding Chinese Medicine from a classical perspective. This course introduces the concept of the Luo Vessels as the main channels for conducting xue/blood and ying/nutritive qi. Clinical applications using the luo vessels focus on cardiovascular and psycho-emotional conditions.
To attend any weekend classes at Daoist Traditions, participants must apply and register as a Non-Diploma Seeking Student. If you have not attended classes with us, please complete both the Non-Diploma Seeking Student Application [pdf] and the Course Registration Form [pdf].
